Guise Book and another Sentinels Kickstarter?!
about 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 08, 2021 at 10:54:58 PM

Good afternoon!

Things are continuing well here! The Guise Book keeps getting funnier, which is a mean feat!

Here are some things to look forward to:

Who are these people? What is happening here?

And what adventure could lie in the pages of this story?!

Could this be the end of our fair hero?!??!?!

In other news, if you’re not just an RPG fan and are interested in more Sentinel Comics stuff, we’re relaunching the card game that started it all, withSentinels of the Multiverse: Definitive Edition! The main page of the Kickstarter has a ton of information about how and why and when and all that. Also, for a retrospective on what led to this, I posted this announcement at the beginning of the year, and then I just posted this update to the Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon Kickstarter page all about the journey from there to where we are now.

We’ll keep sharing more Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game stuff as it happens! We’ve got a lot of big plans for this excellent RPG, and we look forward to sending you all sorts of cool stuff!

Thanks, everyone!

Whoops! Late update!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 03, 2021 at 04:07:05 PM

Hey folks!

[Note: apologies! I wrote this update on Monday and set it to go out Tuesday morning... but here we are Tuesday evening and I'm just now realizing it never went out (because a kind person reached out to me to ask where it was — thanks, Sonvar!) so here's the update! Sorry about the delay.]

It's another first Tuesday of the month, so I bring you glad tidings and some pictures!

The Guise Book art and layout continues! Both(!) of the adventures in the book have preliminary layout completed, which means the artists can begin crafting arts for those adventures. Also, Adam has done a bunch more arts for the book, including this new hero:

and this new villain:

Thrilling! Who can they be?!

The next books on the docket are 1) the adventures book with the Diamond Book of Monsters issues, and the Xxtz'Hulissh issues, and 2) the History of Sentinel Comics book. Both of them are moving along quite well! We've gotten all the issue text for the adventure issues for the first book, so Dave and I still have to do our passes on it to kick the tires and fill in any necessary bits, but the bulk of that writing is done! The History of Sentinel Comics book is mostly written, as Darren has been working on it for a LONG time. At this point, he tells me that I can have it whenever I want, but the longer I leave it in his hands, the longer he'll keep tweaking and adding more... which is fine by me! But sometime this year, I'll be getting that text from him to do my canon and continuity editing pass, and then we'll be off to layout!

So, anyway, that's all said to let you know that things are still moving right along here!

Are you getting a chance to play Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game? We hope so! Share your pictures and stories on social media with the Greater Than Games accounts, which you can find in the bottom right corner of our new website!

See you next month!

PDF updates! Working on the Guise book!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 04, 2021 at 05:42:21 PM

Good morning!

As per the title, got a couple things to talk about today.

PDF Updates

We got some feedback from folks about a few minor errors in the SCRPG Core Rulebook PDFs, as well as some functionality issues with both the Hero and Villain form-fillable PDF, and the hero sheet for Jenn's Season 3 character. So! Over the last month, we combed through all those PDFs and made fixes/corrections/updates. Just yesterday, I uploaded new versions of each of those PDFs to the bundles they are part of on DriveThruRPG. So, you should be able to use the link it sent you before to go grab those five updated PDFs!

Guise Book?!

Yeah, buddy. I mean, it's not surprising — you all know that we're working on the Guise book. But, man, is it fun to get into the weeds with this wacky fellow. Plus, I've had the absolutely delightful opportunity to work on content by a team of fantastic freelancers. More about them and their work in future updates. Just know that this book has some overqualified writers working on it.

Some quick previews of things to come in the Guise book include:

This guy:

This jerk:

And a variety of strange hero sheets that have abilities such as:

and

and

What is going on?!

Shenanigans, I tell you.

Progress is happening on a lot of fronts, but the Guise book is our primary focus right now as we get that finished up so we can turn our attention to the next thing! See you next time!

Welcome to 2021!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Jan 08, 2021 at 09:47:00 AM

Good morning, everyone!

I hope this year finds you as well as we're feeling! We're jazzed about everyone's reactions to the books so far! Good times!

If you don't have your books yet, shoot us an e-mail at [email protected] and we'll get to the bottom of it. If you have any other problems with your shipment or products, that's the place to e-mail us!

At this point, we're going back to once a month updates, in which I'll talk about the state of the various other things we're working on to finish up all the exciting things we're making from this campaign!

Thanks for supporting us! We're thrilled to have this book out there, and to get to hold it and use it ourselves! Adam and I have been digging through it recently, for both work and pleasure! We hope you like it as much as we do.

See you next month!

End of 2020!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Jan 02, 2021 at 04:00:53 PM

What a year it's been! Even writing the title to this update brought a spark of joy.

As promised in last week's update, I'm here to answer your questions! I'm also here to tell you that all the PDFs have been sent out via BackerKit! What PDFs specifically, you ask? Here's a list!

  • SCRPG Core Rulebook (Compressed)
  • SCRPG Coloring Book
  • Off the Rails Adventure (High Res)
  • Off the Rails Adventure (Compressed)
  • GM Screen
  • Creating Heroes Quick Reference
  • Form-Fillable Hero Sheet
  • Form-Fillable Auxiliary Sheet
  • Form-Fillable Villain Sheet
  • Seasons 1, 2, and 3 SCRPG Livestream Hero Sheets

You'll note that the High Res version of the core rulebook isn't in that list. That's because BackerKit has a 250MB file size cap, which is why there are a series of files on BackerKit, rather than one big zip file. But the high res core rulebook file is too big to go on there in any way! So, we are working on a way to get you that file - and all of the other files as well - through DriveThruRPG. As soon as we've got that up and running, we'll send out more info via BackerKit. By next week's update, that should be well in effect. But, for now, all of the files above are available on BackerKit!

If you didn't get an e-mail about the files on BackerKit, go login to BackerKit, where you should see a number of files available for you to download. If you have any difficulty downloading or accessing the BackerKit files, e-mail us at [email protected]!

Before getting into the questions, I wanted to address a couple issues that were brought up a good deal in the comments on last week's update. Many people asked about tracking numbers, shipping speeds, etc. As mentioned, everything has gone out. I did also say that tracking numbers are notoriously unreliable. Some of you will receive your package without getting a tracking number. Some tracking numbers never fully update or are just wrong forever. This isn't a thing we can control, as it's all in the hands of FedEx's overtaxed system, especially this time of year. However, if you haven't gotten anything within a week from now, e-mail us and we'll see what we can track down for you.

Additionally, a few people pointed out some typos. Even with all of the testing and the editing and the proofreading, a few things snuck through! This is the unfortunate way of printing. The good news is that none of them are rules issues, or prevent the game from working properly. As far as we've seen, we're actually notably under the average bar for typos in the first edition of a RPG rulebook! Still, we do apologize for any typos.

Now, on to the rest of the questions!

Reading Letters To You:

"Just curious, are the timeline pdf and zine still happening?"

Yes! They are! As are the Guise book, the book of monsters adventures, the History of Sentinel Comics book, the Dark Watch book, and the Urban Settings book! However, they're not done yet. As we progress through those products, we'll be sending them out! And I'll keep communications going here with status updates, as we have them.

"After the physical book of the RPG rules are sent out, which books do you foresee will be the "next" one on the table? Do you have a probable timeline on what books are coming out at what time approximately?"

That depends on what order writing, editing, art, and layout gets finished. We have a rough plan, but are also aware of the realities of creative work - some things will take more time than anticipated, but some will also take less. Our goal is a minimum of one book per year (which we are confident we can beat) in this order:

  • The Guise Book
  • The monsters adventures book
  • History of Sentinel Comics
  • Sentinel Comics Zine
  • Dark Watch
  • Urban Settings

Everything above is subject to change as we work through the content, and I'll be updating you monthly on our progress.

I was wondering could we be getting a PDF of the Season 3 Live RPG games that Adam was the GM? What about other PDFS characters for games that were done on YouTube specifically the one that Christopher ran with the folks at Game Trade Media?

Yes to the first question. They're already in the download section on BackerKit! No to the second question.

Will there be another collaboration with Green Ronin Publishing and Chris Pramas on having some of the characters of their universe come into SCRPG or vice versa?

There are currently no plans of that sort in the works. That said, anything could happen. However, it's unlikely that non-Sentinel Comics characters would show up in an official Sentinels Comics RPG product.

Is there a chance that there will be a collaboration with Hero Games Publishing and GTG? Maybe conversion rules?

Again, anything could happen, but there are no plans to do so currently.

See you next year!

Starting next Tuesday, we'll be going back to monthly updates, in which I'll keep you all appraised of how the various books are coming along, and anything else happening in the world of Sentinel Comics.

Thank you all for making this possible!

-Christopher
