The Road Ahead

Hello, everyone!
We're freshly back from Gen Con, where all things GTG had a great show, especially Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game! We had a live show that Paul and I co-GMed, lots of folks got introduced to hero creation, and countless villains were defeated by an impressive crew of heroes in the dozens of issues run at the show. All in all, a great time for gaming and for Sentinel Comics! And, for those of you that couldn't make it to Gen Con, not to fear - the live RPG show, podcast, panels, and many more things from Gen Con will be posted on the GTG YouTube channel and the GTG podcast channel in the coming months!
Yesterday, Paul and Jennifer (our Creative Director) and I sat down and mapped out every item still left to complete for the SCRPG core rulebook. We're at well past the 50% mark at this point, but there's still a bit of writing, a lot of art, and a ton of editing/proofreading/indexing to go. This book is shaping up to be bigger and better than we initially anticipated, which is both thrilling and daunting.
With all of the details now in hand, we know that we're behind schedule, but the end is still in the not-too-distant future! At this point, we can confidently state that the PDF will be in all of your hands by the end of this year, with a release of the physical book in the first half of next year. Those dates are both a bit vague, but as we close in on completing challenges (hopefully with as few twists as possible!) and finalizing chapters, we will keep you updated on how the process is going and provide you with even more specific information.
So far, you've seen chapters 2 and 3 (which were only up for a limited time but will be coming back in the future!), and now we're working towards getting you chapters 4 and 5 in a similar fashion. Chapter 4 is all about GMing the SCRPG, and chapter 5 is the Bullpen: making your own stuff as a GM, from villains, to minions, to challenges, to environments, and more!
If you're the sort of person to listen to a podcast, the show that Adam and I post weekly - The Letters Page - will be releasing an episode on Tuesday, August 27th all about the SCRPG, and answering any questions listeners have on that topic. So, if that's of interest to you, tune in! And feel free to submit letters through the podcast's website if there are things you want us to talk about there!
Next month's update is only a few weeks away, since this update posted mid-month, so I look forward to sharing more with you all then. Until then, keep being the heroes that Sentinel Comics needs!

Good afternoon, Sentinels Comics readers and players!
I want to talk a little about a thing that I do not care for in Kickstarter campaigns: backer-only updates.
Many people, when running Kickstarter campaigns, will post backer-only updates, using them to share information about how the project is progressing, future plans, art, etc. In my opinion, that info should be out there in front of everyone, not just for the backers. The backers are already getting the most out of the campaign, and information in what would be a backer-only update might convince someone who is not a backer that they should be. I don't have a major moral stand against them or anything - I just think they're a missed opportunity to share information with people who are interested in what you're doing.
I mention this because I'm going to be posting another update later this month... and it's going to be a backer-only update. *GASP* *SHOCK* *HORROR*
I know, I know. I just explained why I am generally opposed to such things, but the time has come to use this tool for good.
Sometime in the next few weeks, I'll be posting an update here with links to previews of Chapter 2 (How to Play) and Chapter 3 (Hero Creation) of the Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook! Exciting!
What do I mean by previews? I mean that these will not be the final files sent to the printer. They will be missing a few pieces of art that we're still waiting on from various artists (this book has a LOT of art in it), and we still have a final comb for typos and layout issues just to make sure everything's right before we finally go to print. But! The content is correct. The game is looking good. And we're eager to share these giant chunks of it with all of you!
So, with that, I'm going to go back to hunting down any minor errors and getting files to playtesters so we can get these chapters to you, but I wanted to let you know what you could look forward to, soon.
Keep being heroes!

Quick Summer Update - Info on Dark Watch Supplement Book!

Good morning, everyone!
This is your June update! Normally, it would have happened on the first Tuesday of the month, but I was in the UK for the UK Games Expo! A great time was had by all, and many demos of SCRPG were run. Hooray!
Here in the GTG HQ, we've been hard at work on the various books for this Kickstarter, most especially and urgently the core rulebook. There's a LOT going into this thing! We'll be sending some "final" files to playtesters and pre-readers within the next month, and then you'll get to see them before they go public! Exciting times.
The major outstanding question from last month's update was about the Dark Watch supplement. What is it about? What's in it? How does it work? Can you eat it?
To start, no, please don't eat it. It is shockingly low in nutrition value. But! The rest of what I have for you is good news.
The Dark Watch book is the biggest non-core rulebook we're got on our plate as a result of this Kickstarter, and it will hopefully pave the way for other sourcebooks we want to make in the future. Given the setting, you might guess that it would have information on environments such as Rook City, The Aviary, and Zhu Long's new temple... and you'd be right! You might also expect piles of minions and lieutenants appropriate to those settings and more, and wow are you a smart cookie - right again! There will also be more characters in the Archives; from heroes like Setback, Expatriette, Mantra, Pinion, and Night Hunter; to villains like Heartbreaker, Hermetic, Night Snake, and Zhu Long! And So. Many. More.
But besides expanding the lore of Sentinel Comics for the SCRPG, the Dark Watch book will also give both players and GMs useful tools for playing in gritty, noir, and/or street-level settings, including a variety of new Backgrounds, Power Sources, Archetypes, Personalities, and Principles for hero creation, and GM tools for keeping the pressure high and the stakes personal. We're even experimenting with new mechanics to bring that kind of storytelling to life, as options for heroes and villains alike.
As I mentioned, we really hope this book is a success and gives you a taste of what other sorts of books we might make in the future... but! One step at a time. We have a lot of writing, arting, and designing to do between now and then. So many things to look forward to!
Thanks to all of you for your support - we're thrilled to be making this game for you and are eager to get it into your hands soon!
Until next time!
